Who writes this
My name is Michael Perks. I am based in Duncan, BC, on Vancouver Island. I run Design Menu, a web design and managed hosting service, and Island Rank, a free local SEO resource for Vancouver Island businesses. iWebServe is the national companion to those — a place to write about the broader web industry topics that apply to Canadian businesses across the country, not just locally.
I am also low vision. I use screen magnification and high contrast settings every day — including when I built this site. Accessibility on the web is not theoretical for me. This site is built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and targets AAA contrast ratios for all body text, uses Atkinson Hyperlegible (a font designed specifically for low vision readers), and is designed to hold together at 400% browser zoom. What you see here is what I actually need from a website.
What this site is
iWebServe is a reference library for Canadian businesses who need plain-language information about web hosting, web design, accessibility law, and Canadian-specific regulations like PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25. The goal is accurate, useful articles written from genuine experience — not generated content, not affiliate reviews, not paid placement.
Articles are evergreen references, not news posts. They are written to be accurate at time of publication, marked with a "last reviewed" date, and updated when things change. The web industry changes constantly; hosting technology, privacy law, and accessibility standards all evolve. If something on this site becomes outdated, I want to know about it — the contact page is below.
What this site is not
This is not a product review site and does not accept paid placement or sponsored content. When I recommend a tool, a registrar, or a practice, it is because I actually use it or believe it to be genuinely good — not because someone paid for the mention. When Design Menu or Island Rank are mentioned in articles, it is because they are directly relevant to the topic, and I say clearly that they are my own businesses.
This is not a law firm and the legal articles here are not legal advice. Where articles discuss PIPEDA, AODA, or other legislation, they are a starting point for understanding — not a substitute for professional legal counsel on your specific situation.
